Around 100 students from the Humber region are hosting a Christmas trade fair to showcase their business prowess at Beverley’s popular Flemingate centre this Sunday.
The Christmas fair will give budding-entrepreneurs the chance to meet customers face-to-face, respond to queries about their products and operate in a real-life working environment.
The students, aged 15-19, are taking part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme which gives young entrepreneurs the opportunity to set up and run their own business over the course of an academic year.
Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading enterprise and financial education charity which helps young people develop the skills needed for the world of work.
On the programme students are responsible for creating an initial product concept, developing the idea, creating a business plan, managing the company finances and then marketing and selling their products to the general public.
Lucy Gray, Young Enterprise Area Manager, said: “The trade fair at Flemingate is a great opportunity for the students to practice skills needed for the workplace, such as communication skills and face-to-face customer experience.
“The event will give the teams the understanding of what it takes to run their own business as well as the chance to develop employability skills such as working as a team, dealing with challenges and thinking creatively.
“By taking part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme our students develop the confidence, independence and maturity required for the world of work.”
Graham Tait, Flemingate Centre Manager, said: “We’re delighted to host a trade fair for students involved in the Young Enterprise initiative.
“It’s a great opportunity for young people to develop valuable employability skills and experience which will stand them in good stead to succeed in the workplace or set up their own business.”
Products featured at the fair will include handmade Christmas decorations; botanical-themed homewares; handmade gifts; reindeer food; candles, and novelty items.
The Young Enterprise Christmas Trade Fair is at Flemingate at 11am to 4pm on Sunday, December 17, and is located between Outfit and Baytree Interiors. Parking in the 500-space car park is £1 for three hours.
