It’s that time of year when thoughts turn to putting up the Christmas tree, unravelling the tinsel and painstakingly untangling the fairy lights in the hope they still work from last year.

Fortunately, you can leave that stress behind and join in with this year’s bigger and better Christmas Lights Switch-On event in Beverley on Sunday, November 27.

A hugely popular annual celebration, the event will start with a service at Market Cross at 4pm followed by the big switch-on of the lights adorning Saturday Market at 4.35pm.

Mary, Joseph and their faithful donkey will lead the procession through the town, pausing at various points along the way to switch on additional Christmas lights and be serenaded by local school choirs.

As the procession weaves its way through the streets of Beverley, Mary and Joseph will join with shepherds, sheep, angels and the baby Jesus in a nativity setting at Flemingate for more carol singing.

People joining the procession are encouraged to bring their own source of light to create a moving parade of lights to represent the Star of Bethlehem as the town is gradually illuminated.

The event will close at 6pm at Flemingate.
