World-class amateur Latin dancers, Chantal Green and Andrea Borrelli, are flying in from Italy to perform Latin American dance routines at Flemingate this weekend.
Currently studying at the world famous Team Diablo Academy in Italy, Chantal, 23, is returning to her home town of Beverley with her Sicilian dance partner, Andrea Borrelli, 28, to raise funds to enable them to compete in the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) Championships being held in China later this year.
Chantal and Andrea are the WDSF’s number one ranked Latin American dance sport couple in England and, since 2012, have been selected by Dance Sport England to represent England 13 times in competitions all over the world, most recently competing in the WDSF European Championships in Rimini, Italy.
Graham Tait, Flemingate Centre Manager, said: “We’re delighted Chantal and Andrea are to perform some Latin American dance routines at Flemingate this weekend.
“They’re very talented dancers and it’s great to support their fund-raising efforts to enable them to compete at the World Championships in China next month.
“We hope that lots of Beverley residents and visitors will come along to Flemingate to watch them perform and give them their full support.”
The dancing duo are supported by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Talented Performer Scheme for athletes representing England internationally. However, Chantal is not eligible for a grant as she no longer meets the age criteria, so the couple need to raise enough money to cover the cost of flights and visas to compete in the World Championships in Chengdu, China, on September 24th and 25th.
Coached by current world champions, Gabriele Goffredo and Anna Matus, at Team Diablo Academy, Chantal and Andrea are currently undertaking a gruelling six-days-a-week training programme in preparation for the championships.
Chantal and Andrea will perform Latin American dance routines at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm on Saturday, August 6, and at 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Sunday, August 7, outside Deli No.1 at Flemingate.
