A new restaurant is to bring the tastes and experience of Asian street food to Flemingate.
Offering authentic oriental street food freshly cooked to order, Sumo Pan Asian is the brand’s second venture following the success of the popular Japanese food-to-go outlet Sumo in Newland Avenue, Hull.
With an amazing array of favourites from the Far East, the new restaurant will be styled on the kerbside food stalls found on the bustling streets of Hong Kong, Bangkok and Tokyo.
Gary Chin, Director and Head Chef of Sumo Pan Asian, said: “We wanted to bring an authentic Asian street food experience to Beverley, with a modern twist and using the best local ingredients.
“Our concept is designed on the traditional street food bars of Asia, where people sit around counters and the food is freshly cooked in front of them. We will offer that relaxed, informal and very sociable feel, but within a comfortable, quality restaurant environment.
“We’re really excited to be opening in Beverley and see Flemingate as the ideal location, as we believe our customers will be a mix of shoppers, workers and local residents.”
The restaurant will offer a range of authentic and innovative dishes from China, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan, including Chicken Karaage; Crispy Duck Buns; Chicken Satay Skewers; Katsu Curry; Thai Red Curry; Ramen and Bento Boxes.
There is also an extensive range of vegetarian and vegan options such as Korean Sticky Tofu; Vegetarian Gyoza; Truffle Spring Rolls; Sweet Potato Curry, and Vegetarian Udon Soup.
Desserts include thick Japanese Pancakes – soft on the inside and crispy on the outside – topped with honey and butter, mixed fruits or ice-cream and nuts.
Located next to Subway, Sumo Pan Asian will employ around eight staff and is due to open in June. The new fully-licensed restaurant will open from lunchtime to 10pm daily and offer a dine-in or take-out option.

“We’re pleased to add another growing local business to our line-up of independent outlets. We feel we’ve got a really good balance of big national names and entrepreneurial local and regional brands.”
